Blog Spotlight: Food Renegade

Perfect Supplements believes that the majority of your nutrients should come from food. For that reason, WE LOVE FOOD and we also love food bloggers. Kristen of Food Renegade writes wonderful articles on the benefits of whole food nutrition while teaching her readers what they should and should not feed their family. Her blog also provides wonderful recipes and tutorials to help put those healthy foods on the table.

In an article entitled “How to Choose a Good Coconut Oil,” Kristen discusses the differences between refined and unrefined Coconut Oils. She also outlines the different extraction methods and what to watch out for, creating an informative guide on choosing the best Coconut Oil for your family.

In another informative article, Kristen discusses “The Dangers of Soy.”  While soy is touted for being a healthy vegetarian protein source, it may not be safe to ingest in large quantities. She explains that soy contains phytoestrogens, phytates, and trypsin inhibitors. Phytoestrogens mimic estrogen in the human body and can cause a host of hormonal issues. Phytates are enzyme inhibitors that block mineral absorption in the digestive track. Trypsin is a digestive enzyme needed to properly digest protein. The trypsin inhibitors in soy render the body unable to digest proteins properly, causing a host of gastrointestinal issues. These are just a few of the dangers of soy that Kristen discusses in article.

If you are a vegetarian (or anyone!) concerned about your protein intake and you’d like to avoid soy, Perfect Supplements retails a variety of products packed with healthy, SAFE, vegetarian protein. Perfect Aquatic Greens is 65% vegetarian protein, created with Chlorella and Spirulina, and is completely free of soy. Perfect Plant Protein is raw, vegan, and hypoallergenic and contains absolutely no soy.

Kristen is a huge fan of healthy fats and oils and believes that a balanced diet is a wonderful preventative medicine. In the article “Should You Use Sunscreen,” Kristen discusses why sunscreen may do more harm than good. She also explains that a well balanced diet, rich in healthy fats and oils (especially Omega-3s), can prevent sunburn all together. Kristen and her family supplement their diet with Fermented Cod Liver Oil for added protection.
