Doctors and your Grandmother agree, Fish Oil, and in particular, Cod Liver Oil, is the ultimate super-food. Doctors recommend the Healthy Omega Fats in fish oil for helping to reduce bad cholesterol and tri-glycerides. Cod Liver Oil adds the incredible health benefits of high levels of Vitamin A and Vitamin D.
So why doesn’t everyone have a bottle of this liquid gold in their cupboard? Well…fish oil tastes like fish, and not necessarily in a good way. The Green Pasture’s Fermented Cod Liver Oil is also available in capsules, plain or Oslo Orange flavor. Obviously, taking fish oil in a capsule greatly reduces the issue of flavor. However, some people, like me, wish to take 1 tsp or more per day, as recommended by Dr. Weston A. Price. It takes quite a few capsules to reach 1 tsp, so I prefer the liquid. Also, my children are too young to take capsules.
I have not tried all the flavors yet, but here are a few recipes I have found helpful for consuming Fermented Cod Liver Oil. These recipes are intended to help you, and your children, enjoy the health benefits of cod liver oil everyday. They are simple “take your supplement” recipes.
This one is really simple and works for the kids. For each serving I use
- 1 tsp Honey plus 1 ml Green Pasture Arctic Mint Cod Liver Oil
Mix together and serve on a spoon.
My children enjoy the flavors of the organic peppermint, wintergreen, and spearmint oil extracts. I haven’t tried it yet, but I think this recipe might work with the Cinnamon Tingle and Oslo Orange flavors as well.
Mint Chocolate Smoothie
- 1 tsp Green Pasture Arctic Mint Cod Liver Oil
- 1 – 2 Tblsp unsweetened raw Cacao Powder (depends how chocolatey you like it – regular cocoa powder could also be used)
- 1 C plain Yogurt or Milk (I prefer yogurt for its natural probiotics)
- 1 -2 Tblsp Maple Syrup (or the natural sweetener of your choice)
- 1/2 – 1 C Water
- 5 Ice Cubes
