Free Greens? 3 Dandelion Greens Smoothie Recipes

I went out to my yard and found Dandelion Greens… tons of them. Why so many? Weeds know they are safe in my yard because I won’t spray any toxic herbicides where my children play. I don’t know about you, but when I see fresh greens growing, I think… ” Green Smoothie!” So I picked a bunch.

They look good, don’t they? Just like the kind you pay for in your “Spring Mix” or “Mesclun Mix” Salads.

Dandelion Greens Health Benefits
That’s right, you have healthy greens growing for free, right in your backyard! So what are the health benefits of these little beauties?

According to Tracy Russell, over at Incredible Smoothies, the health benefits of dandelion greens include high amounts of calcium, iron, other minerals, vitamins, protein, and antioxidants. Truly amazing greens!

Dandelion Greens Smoothie Recipes

Once I started adding dandelion greens to my morning smoothie, I couldn’t stop! I tried three different recipes, and then made my favorite a second time.

This is a basic Green Smoothie recipe, simply replacing generic greens with dandelion greens. A tip I learned when working with dandelion greens is that they can be bitter, so start with only one cup of greens, to see how you like it. Ginger is recommended to reduce the bitterness of the greens. I also tried cinnamon.

Pineapple Coconut Ginger Smoothie

1 cup Dandelion Greens
1 – 2 cup Pineapple
1 – 2  Tbls Shredded Coconut
1/4 – 3/4 tsp Ginger (to taste)
1 scoop Protein Powder (your choice – optional)
Natural Sweetener (to taste)

1. Dump everything into the blender.

2. Add your choice of liquid until reach desired consistency (Generally, I add liquid until the level of the smoothie reaches 3 – 4 cups). I love coconut milk; but any milk, juice, or water will do.

3. Optional – I also like to throw in one Tbls of Raw Organic Chia Seeds – adds 3 g of protein, 4g of healthy omega fats and 5 g of fiber.

I also tried… Blueberry Cinnamon Smoothie

Swap out the Pineapple and Ginger for Blueberries and Cinnamon.
My favorite… Clementine Mango Smoothiedandelionsmooth3

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The clementines were seedless, so I simply peeled two and tossed them in the blender with some mango and omitted the spice.

You can see by the picture that the dandelion greens blend up just like any other greens, with a beautiful vibrant color due to the freshness of the greens.
