Liver Detox 101: Turmeric
Perfect Supplements recently teamed up with Naturopath and Liver Detox Expert Erica LePore. With our combined research and experience, we created Perfect Liver Detox. In the last article of this series, we discussed the benefits of milk thistle for liver detoxification. In this article, we went directly to Dr. LePore to learn more about the health benefits of turmeric for liver detoxification.
What is Turmeric?
A common yellow cooking spice known for its use in Indian curries and in yellow mustard, Turmeric has been used medicinally for nearly 4,000 years. Today, studies demonstrate that the active constituent in turmeric, curcumin, provides powerful liver protection, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
The Health Benefits of Turmeric

What Does Phase 2 Liver Detoxification Mean?
As mentioned in the previous article, phase 2 of liver detoxification occurs when the liver cells add another substance to the toxic chemical to make it more water-soluble. Once bound, the toxin is water-soluble and can be excreted from the body in watery body fluids such as urine and bile. If it is a large molecule, it is excreted into the bile and released into the stool for elimination. If it is a smaller molecule, it is excreted through the kidneys into the urine for elimination.
Not All Turmeric is Created Equal
