Well then, you’ve come to the right place-
Welcome to the Perfect Supplements’ Health Blog!

JMBbioMy name is Jamie and I began writing for Perfect Supplements in 2012. I develop most of the recipes and articles for this health blog, create content for our website, and contribute to our social media accounts.

I am currently a student at the University of Rhode Island pursuing my English B.A. degree. In my spare time I love to visit local farmer’s markets, create recipes, and cook wonderful food for the people I love. I was an avid competitive horseback rider for 12 years but I’ve recently found a love for weight training. When I’m not at school or working for Perfect Supplements, you can definitely find me at the gym!

My Journey to Health

My path to discovering greater health started in high school. I was overwhelmed with stress and anxiety, my diet was terrible and I didn’t have a healthy relationship with food, I was on too many medications, and by the end of my senior year, my stomach was constantly in pain.

Even though my health was less than optimal, I headed off to UMASS Amherst to start my freshman year of college. I was having a blast, but by sophomore year, my stomach issues and anxiety became unbearable. I was completely unaware that gut health and mental health are entirely connected, I was taking close to 10 medications, and all of the doctors I saw offered no solution… except for more medication. Not one doctor mentioned that I might want to take a look at my diet. By the middle of my sophomore year,  I had to make the very hard to decision to leave UMASS and return home to Rhode Island.

After coming home, I saw more and more doctors. Each doctor gave me a new prescription, with a new set of side effects, and no true solution. One day I decided that I was fed up and I stopped taking all of my medications. The doctors warned that I would get worse, but I didn’t. Instead, I started to get better.

I can’t say it was by choice, but when I came home I started eating tons of raw vegetables. I didn’t even like the taste at first, but it was the only thing I could seem to stomach. I was never overweight, but when I came off of the medication and started eating more vegetables, I lost 20 pounds in less than two months. I couldn’t help but notice that my skin began to clear. My insomnia and anxiety seemed to lessen day by day. I was more focused. I was happier.

Home Sweet Home AKA The Gym

Shortly after I made the decision to stop taking prescription medicine, I started working for Perfect Supplements where I learned the importance of eating real food. I began cooking all of my meals from scratch with local and organic ingredients.

I now follow the Weston A. Price Diet, which is perfect for me because it includes plenty of bacon, butter, and cheese. Not many people can say their diet allows my favorite foods, but the Weston A. Price Diet has taught me not to believe the nutrition myths that have made our country overweight and unhealthy. Since changing my diet, I am proud to say that I am almost completely free from anxiety and digestive issues!

Working for Perfect Supplements has also taught me the importance of finding time to move your body each day. I now participate in a variety of outdoor activities and spend time at the gym as much as possible. Most importantly, working for Perfect Supplements and watching my health improve has taught me to practice gratitude. I no longer feel like the poor little girl who was destined to be sick forever. I now know that I am in charge of my health and my happiness, and for that I am truly grateful.
