Morelli Family

My husband Paul and I founded Perfect Supplements in order to promote environmentally-friendly and fairly-traded superfoods. I experienced a strong desire for my work-life to be more in line with the rest of my life, as a Health Nut and Nature Freak. You can read more about our business history here.

Health Nut

Still smiling after 26 miles.

Over the years I have participated in two half marathons, one marathon, and two 5K+ obstacle course races. I also enjoyed weekly martial arts training with my family for several years. Currently I enjoy regular weight training, hiking, and practicing sports with the kids.

You can read more about my marathon adventures here and here, and the obstacle course race here. Physical activity is part of my daily life with my children, whether it is swimming, bike riding, hiking, or playing games in the backyard. This month I tried bike riding at the BMX track for the first time. It was a blast!

Traditional and Paleo Foodie

nourishing traditionsMy Health Nut tendencies include my obsession with healthy food. I have been interested in healthy eating my entire adult life. Approximately 20 years ago I began my pursuit of a healthier lifestyle by following a mostly vegetarian diet. Based on my limited knowledge, I believed that this diet was best for myself and the planet. Eight years ago, my ideas about healthy eating dramatically transformed after I read the renowned cookbook, Nourishing Traditions (my book review). Prior to reading that book, I naively thought that the only way to avoid factory-farmed meat was by choosing a vegetarian diet. Now my family enjoys meat, eggs, and dairy from local, humanely-raised and pastured animals. We also enjoy seasonal fruits and vegetables from our local farms.

In the last couple of years, my cooking interests have included a lot of Paleo, Primal and gluten-free recipes, due to gluten and dairy sensitivities in my family.

This year I’ve been experimenting with Keto (low carb, high fat), tracking my macros every day for several months. Overall, I find this way of eating very beneficial because it eliminates my sugar/carb crashes.

My favorite, simple-to-make dessert – Fruit Crisp!

Providing healthy, delicious food for my family is easy when I choose local, fresh ingredients. You can find dozens of healthy recipes on our blog, including my favorite dessert, Fruit Crisp, which tastes delicious with any seasonal fruit; strawberries in June, blueberries in July, peaches in August, and apples in September! This crisp recipe includes Paleo and Vegan options.

The traditional diet discussed in Nourishing Traditions is based on the research of Dr. Weston A. Price. I learned so much from the Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF) that I decided to co-lead our local chapter in Southern RI. We provide resource lists of the best farms in the region, and networking/educational opportunities for traditional foodies. If you are in the area, you can connect with us online.

Meditating Mama

Ordination Day 2013 at Family Retreat at Blue Cliff Monastery, NY

The time I share with my three children is the highlight of my life, and my daily meditation practice makes me a better mom (and wife). An active member of the RI Community of Mindfulness since 2007, I also co-facilitate a monthly mindfulness meeting for families because I enjoy sharing the benefits of mindfulness with children. In 2013 I became a member of the Order of Interbeing, established by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. Curious about mindfulness? Here is a brief introduction into mindful living. Raised Catholic, and a member of a protestant church for 15 years, I consider myself a Christian Buddhist. The Buddhist practices of mindfulness and meditation make me a better human being.

My education includes a Masters degree in Science, as well as graduate level courses in Education. My employment experience includes professional writer and college level instructor. Nutrition is my obsession, including certification as a Functional Diagnostic Nutrtion Practitioner (FDN-P). My mission is promoting optimum health for all living beings, which birthed Perfect Supplements in 2008.

Want to connect? In 2018, my favorite social media is Instagram – that’s where you will find my personal posts. Perfect Supplements is also active on facebook and twitter.
