Liver Detox 101: Cilantro
We took a break from our Liver Detox 101 series over the holidays, but there are still two more articles left in the collection! We have already discussed how milk thistle, turmeric, schisandra berry, artichoke leaf, and broccoli sprouts detoxify the liver. In this article, we are going to discuss the health benefits of cilantro for liver detoxification.
What is Cilantro?
Cilantro is a uniquely flavored cooking herb and also a powerful heavy metal detoxifier. If you’ve ever enjoyed Mexican food, you’ve probably had cilantro at least once in your life. In fact, cilantro is so prevalent in Mexican cooking, there is even a restaurant named after the super herb! On top of being tasty, cilantro has been shown to protect against lead exposure, and to increase the release of mercury, lead, and aluminum from the body.
The Health Benefits of Cilantro
- Enhances the Elimination of Heavy Metals
- Contains Powerful Antioxidants
- Reduces Inflammation
- Promotes Healthy Cholesterol
- Boosts Memory
How Does Cilantro Detoxify the Liver?
Cilantro aids in removing toxins that are neutralized in the liver and delivered to the GI tract through the bile. In the GI tract, cilantro helps to further bind the toxins in the colon for elimination through the stool. This binding activity helps to prevent toxins from returning to the bloodstream.
