Why Do We Climb Mountains?

Why do human beings climb mountains, run marathons, swim across channels, or a combination of all three? According to George Mallory, author of Climbing Everest, “…there is something in man which responds to the challenge of this mountain and goes out to meet it…

What we get from this adventure is just sheer joy.”

I completely agree! No, it doesn’t feel physically good, in the moment, when I am sucking wind at the top of a particularly steep climb, or crawling through three inches of mud. So, exactly where is the joy? That sense of pushing my mental and physical limits, and accomplishing a difficult task.

Feeling Proud of Our Perfect Supplements Team

This weekend, Perfect Supplements sponsored a team in our local, 4 mile, 32 obstacles race, the BoldrDash. Our team included co-founders, Paul and Kristen, employees, Jamie and Andrew, and a few family friends. Everyone had a blast. My favorite quotes from the day included,

If it wasn’t challenging, it wouldn’t be fun.”

I’m not happy unless there is mud in my underwear.”

This particular race is called the Mud Run. It takes place on a ski hill and includes lots of opportunities to get muddy. There is something strangely liberating about crawling and running through muddy water. I suspect it is the thrill of doing something counter-culture and uncivilized. Unless you participate in military training, when else does this rare opportunity arise? But I declare,

Everyone should crawl through mud!”

Go ahead. You are an adult now. No one will say you can’t get dirty. Personally, I love it! (Then again, I am a Nature Freak.)

I was most impressed by our youngest team members, two 13 year old young ladies who absolutely attacked the mountain. Total rockstars! Their strength and endurance were admirable.

A Shout Out to Another Perfect Team

Perfect Supplements also sponsors a BMX team at our local track.

While visiting the track, we noticed there were no recycling containers for all those Gatorade bottles, so we made arrangements for recycling pick up at the races.
